Nestled in the heart of Los Angeles, Hillcrest Country Club has been a staple of elite golf since its opening in 1920. Originally designed by renowned golf course architect Willie Watson, the private club is located adjacent to Rancho Park Golf Course and directly across from the iconic Fox Studio Lot, offering a setting rich in both sporting and Hollywood history.
In 2018, Kyle Phillips Golf Course Design undertook a major renovation that redefined the course’s strategic elements while maintaining its classic character. The ambitious redesign introduced six entirely new holes, significantly improving course flow and playability. In addition, the renovation made space for a state-of-the-art six-acre practice facility, elevating Hillcrest’s standing among private golf clubs in Los Angeles.
A key highlight of the course is its exceptional collection of par 3s, none more notable than the dramatic 12th hole. Stretching up to 260 yards, it challenges even the most skilled players as it plays into a massive Biarritz green—a rare and visually striking feature known for its deep swale running through the center.
Further solidifying its reputation, Hillcrest hosted the U.S. Open Final Qualifying in 2023, attracting top-tier professional and amateur golfers vying for a spot in the U.S. Open. This prestigious event placed Hillcrest alongside some of the best courses in the country, reinforcing its status as one of Los Angeles’ premier private golf destinations.
While access to the club remains exclusive, Hillcrest’s blend of historic charm, modern updates, and championship-caliber play makes it one of the most distinguished venues in Southern California golf.
