Pasatiempo holds a special place in Alister MacKenzie’s legacy, as the course he personally cherished and where he lived his final years along its sixth fairway. Known for its intricate greens and dramatic bunkering, the course is a masterpiece of MacKenzie’s artistry. Thanks to restoration efforts by Tom Doak and Jim Urbina, Pasatiempo’s design shines in its full glory today.
The five par 3s are both demanding and enchanting, culminating with the stunning 18th, a 181-yard shot over a canyon. The back nine offers a series of memorable challenges, with holes like 10, 11, 12, and 16 playing over dramatic barrancas.
Pasatiempo has hosted prestigious tournaments, including the 1986 U.S. Women’s Amateur and the 2004 U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur. It has also been recognized for its environmental initiatives, earning a Green Star award in 2014 for its innovative water management. With the installation of a recycled water storage system, Pasatiempo has overcome drought challenges and continues to thrive as one of MacKenzie’s finest achievements.
