San Francisco Golf Club boasts a rich history and a timeless design. Originally routed in 1918 by three club members, the course gained its distinctive character in 1923 when A.W. Tillinghast remodeled it, introducing signature greens, strategic bunkering, and the par-3 seventh, famously known as the “Duel Hole” for its location at the site of America’s last legal duel.
In 1950, three holes were replaced in anticipation of a street widening project that never materialized. Decades later, in 2006, Tom Doak and his associate Jim Urbina restored these original holes, bringing the course back to its former glory. Today, San Francisco Golf Club stands as a remarkable blend of historic charm and exceptional golf architecture.
