Designed by Jack Nicklaus, ASGCA
Built in the late 1980s for industrialist David Murdock, Sherwood Country Club is a testament to Jack Nicklaus’s ability to create luxury courses. Nestled in a natural river valley surrounded by homesites on high ridges, Sherwood boasts a meticulously crafted environment. Hundreds of mature oaks were transplanted at a cost of $6 million, while massive boulders, ponds, and streams were designed to add drama and challenge.
Following the 2014 drought, Nicklaus returned in 2016 to oversee water-saving agronomic improvements, reducing usage by 25 percent. While more understated in presentation today, Sherwood remains a standout design that seamlessly blends beauty with playability.
