Spyglass Hill Golf Course

Spyglass Hill and Stevenson Dr., Pebble Beach, CA 93953, United States Location Google Maps
Slope: 144
Designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr., ASGCA

Tasked with designing a course along the iconic 17 Mile Drive near Pebble Beach and Cypress Point, Robert Trent Jones crafted a masterpiece that combines the rugged charm of Pine Valley with the refined elegance of Augusta National. The first five holes, set in sand dunes reminiscent of Pine Valley, offer a fleeting but stunning interaction with the Pacific coastline. The remainder of the course winds through rolling hills adorned with towering Monterey pines, though many of these trees face threats from pitch canker and are gradually being replaced with resilient cypress trees.

Water hazards, evocative of Augusta’s iconic 16th hole—also designed by Trent Jones—add strategic depth and beauty to the layout. Many consider this course to be one of Jones’ finest achievements, a design that blends challenge, strategy, and visual splendor. Despite its accolades, it remains one of the best courses never to host a major event, even as peers like Pine Valley and Cypress Point have earned Walker Cup honors.
